By Sena Balbach Many people in today’s society wear clothing and accessories made from fake fur instead of real fur. Is this simply because faux fur is more accessible in mainstream clothing stores? Or are people aware of the cruelty in the fur industry and consciously avoid clothing made from real fur from other animals? If you fall into the second category there is still a chance that your faux fur items contain fur from a non-human animal and have been mislabeled.
By Dr. G (Carol Glasser) Students in the Spring 2017 section of Society and Animals (SOC 285W: Special Topics) took a survey measuring their attitudes toward nonhuman animals in the first day of class and again 14 weeks later, toward the end of the semester.
by Jenna Thompson “Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow”. This is a classic nursery rhyme that is soothing and enticing for the innocent youth and quite frankly the rest of the population who are blinded to an industry they likely support every day. Realistically the jingle should go along the lines of, “Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was cruelly taken away by humans”. You were probably never told that these little nonhuman animals are merely breed for production.
